Family Ties: Like Father, Like Son - The Noah & Patrick Drake Fanlisting was created on January 18, 2006 by Maria of The FacesGH Network. The fanlisting's title refers to the similarities between father Noah and his son Patrick. Both men are brilliant neurosurgeons whose charisma attracts women in droves.

:: ABOUT NOAH & PATRICK ::

Noah Drake was a brilliant and promising young surgeon when he first joined the General Hospital staff in the early 1980s. Charming and handsome, Noah quickly developed a reputation as a ladies' man. During his short tenure at General hospital, Noah romanced a number of women, including Bobbie Spencer and Tiffany Hill. Noah was offered a surgical position in Atlanta where he met and married his wife. The couple had one son Patrick, who followed in his father's footsteps to become a brilliant neurosurgeon and...a ladies' man. The pair became estranged after Noah's wife became ill, requiring surgery. Noah was the only surgeon on hand, and while he was brilliant and gifted, it was not enough to save his wife, who died on the operating table. Noah slipped into a deep depression and turned to alcohol to ease his pain. Noah became an alcoholic while his and Patrick's relationship deteriorated.

Years later, Robin Scorpio, whose father Robert had been acquainted with Noah in Port Charles, came looking for Noah in search of a surgeon to operate on her very ill ex-boyfriend Jason Morgan. Jason, whose parents Alan and Monica Quartermaine were former colleagues and friends of Noah's, was near death and Tony Jones (another of Noah's former colleagues) had recommended Noah as one of the few neurosurgeons who could operate successfully on Jason. Robin traveled to Atlanta and found Noah drunk in a bar, nothing like the brilliant surgeon she had envisioned. After some convincing, Noah agreed to return to Port Charles and look into Jason's case, however, he did not want his former friends and colleagues to see him in his inebriated and addicted state. Noah cleaned himself up and returned to Port Charles to a warm reception from his friends.

Noah's years of drinking had taken its toll. While he intended to stay sober, Sam McCall (Jason's girlfriend) caught him trying to spike his coffee with alcohol. Horrified, Sam refused to allow Noah to operate on Jason. Robin begged Sam to reconsider as it was believed Noah was Jason's only chance. Noah, however, agreed with Sam that he could not perform the surgery, but he did know of another surgeon who could - a young neurosurgeon named Patrick Drake. Robin again went searching for her miracle, finding him in a compromising position with a young nurse. Undeterred, Robin matter-of-factly told Patrick that she needed a miracle and he was it. With that, Robin told him to get dressed and threw his clothes at him. At first, Patrick refused the case, saying it was a miracle Jason was alive and not wanting to tarnish his perfect record. Ever convincing, Robin got him to at least come to Port Charles and examine Jason himself.

Robin and Patrick arrived at General Hospital and Patrick examined Jason. Having agreed to perform the surgery, Patrick and Robin were discussing Jason's case when he came face-to-face with his father Noah. Upon finding out of Noah's involvement, Patrick backpedaled and refused Jason's case, not wanting to have anything to do with his father or anything he was involved in. Jason's girlfriend Sam, his best friend Carly Corinthos and Robin were able to convince him to take the case after insinuating that Patrick couldn't successfully perform the surgery. Patrick took the bait and performed the surgery with Noah and Robin's aid under stressful conditions (Manny Ruiz, a fugitive, had sabotaged the hospital's backup generator after a fierce storm had knocked out the power).

After Jason's successful surgery, both Noah and Patrick decided to stay at General Hospital and try to mend their broken relationship. Noah rekindled his friendships with Bobbie, Alan and Monica while Patrick quickly gained a reputation as a ladies' man, squiring a number of women including Carly Corinthos and Emily Quartermaine around town. However, during the encephalitis epidemic, his affection for Robin Scorpio came to the forefront as he desperately tried to convince her to leave the quarantined hospital rather than risk infection. Robin refused and went about her business along with Alan, Monica, Tony, Noah and Patrick as they fervently worked to save as many patients as they could. Meanwhile, Noah, who had briefly gone into rehab after Jason's surgery at the prodding of both Patrick and Bobbie, returned to town with devastating news - his liver was failing and he needed a transplant. Patrick tried in vain to convince Noah to agree to a transplant, even offering part of his own kidney. But Noah's fear of placing his son in danger quashed that option. Patrick bitterly spat that his father was being selfish while Robin tried to convince Patrick that his father was just trying to protect him. A number of people tried to convince Noah to change his mind, but Noah remained steadfast in his decision. With Noah's condition worsening, Patrick opted to go over his father's head and authorize the surgery. Noah was enraged when he found out but with help from friends realized Patrick did it out of love and to give them another chance. Still, the father-and-son pair continued to butt heads.

Noah eventually went into rehab to deal with his alcoholism. Upon completion, Noah abruptly left Port Charles in 2007 to join Doctors with Borders. He returned in 2008 and immediately began butting heads with his son after finding out Patrick and Robin were expecting a child. Noah's belief that Patrick was just like him led him to state that Patrick would never be a good father. However, Patrick's testimony at a hearing for child visitation began to change his opinion of his son's desire and commitment to be there for his and Robin's child. Noah and Patrick have admitted to finally being at a balance where they can tolerate the other, but hopefully, with the help of friends and a child, the two can start to work on their problems and forge a better relationship.
